DAVID WEST READ is a New York-based playwright and screenwriter. He currently writes for the new CBC comedy series Schitt’s Creek, starring Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara. His plays include: The Performers (Longacre Theatre on Broadway; Broadway.com Audience Choice nominee for Best New Play), The Dream of the Burning Boy (O’Neill Theater Conference, Roundabout Underground; John Gassner Award nomination, Drama League Award nomination), The Great Pretender (Old Globe New Voices Festival, TheatreWorks Silicon Valley; Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Award for Best Original Script, Theatre Bay Area Award nomination), Happy Face (Pacific Playwrights Festival) and The Dark Pines (Cape Cod Theatre Project). He has been commissioned to write plays for Roundabout Theatre Company, Burnt Umber Productions and South Coast Rep, and screenplays for B-Spoke Entertainment and Bunce Media. He is currently developing a screenplay with No Trace Camping. David is a graduate of the Lila Acheson Wallace Playwrights Program at The Juilliard School and the MFA program at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, where he has also taught in the Department of Dramatic Writing. He is a native of Toronto, Canada.
